Hello fellow Wisconsinites,
My name is Jeremy Ryan. From a very early age I have always taken an interest in politics. As a child I was raised under the philosophy of "If you're not part of the solution you're part of the problem.". Now just because you're not running for office doesn't mean you're part of the problem. It is no secret our country and state are at a very fragile point right now. Despite recent improvements in our economy, we are still facing job cutbacks and still struggling to make ends meet.
I cannot promise you a quick fix to a big problem. But what I can tell you is this. At times like these it is absolutely essential that we elect leaders that can generate new ideas and help secure our future and our children's futures. This is where I am glad to come in. I have always had a calling for public service. I have helped with several charities and always been an activist for issues that I feel strongly about. So the way I felt best to be part of the solution was to run for public office.
I searched and searched for what office I could enable the most change in. That is when I came across the office of Secretary of State. Being involved in politics I was aware many people don't know what this office does or really even who the current Secretary of State is. So let me give you a little history. Our current Secretary of State, Doug LaFollette, has been serving for 32 years. When he started his position, it had many responsibilities. Throughout the years two of the largest responsibilities of the office have been transferred to the Government Accountability Board and Department of Financial Institutions.
So now we are at a crossroads. Taxpayers are paying $1.8 million for an office of 8 employees to file papers and attach the Great Seal of Wisconsin to any documents the governor signs. As a taxpayer I am concerned about so much money going to perform so little. As a candidate I plan to do something about it. It has been over a decade since the Office of Secretary of State has had as much work or responsibilities as most of our citizens, even outside of government work have on a regular basis.
To me it's time for a change. It's time to have politicians in office that work just as hard, and in my opinion they should work harder, than the average citizen. I plan to add responsibilities, fill any voids that I see needed to be filled using this office. I also plan an overhaul to include making the Secretary of State's office a liason between the state government and people. Think of me as a people's activist. It's time we get our money's worth as taxpayers.
I don't have a doctorate. I don't hold a position on the board of one of our nations largest environmental positions. I don't even own my own house. But here is what I do have. I have a will and desire to serve the people and I have a few good ideas. I also have the ability to come up with plenty more good ideas. I have a desire for change. In the end, it doesn't take a fancy degree or years of experience to serve the people. All it takes is a vision and the ability to make that happen. So if you're tired of the same politics as usual, vote Jeremy Ryan for Secretary of State. I promise I won't let you down.
Sincerely,
Jeremy J. Ryan
